Delanta, Amhara Region – The head of Delanta Woreda Administration Office, Mr. Getahun Ayale Biru, has been shot dead by unidentified armed assailants, the local administration announced.
According to a condolence statement issued by the Delanta Woreda Administration Council, the incident occurred on July 12, 2017 E.C. (July 19, 2025 Gregorian calendar). Mr. Getahun was reportedly shot approximately 50 meters from his residence shortly after leaving his home at around 12:20 a.m.
The assailants remain unidentified, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have not released additional details regarding possible motives or ongoing investigations.
This incident follows a similar attack in March of this year in which three individuals, including Mr. Fentaw Kebede, the administrator of South Wollo Zone, were killed by gunmen.
Addis Standard reported earlier today that tensions in parts of the Amhara region have persisted, with recent incidents reflecting a pattern of targeted violence against government officials.
