According to the Amhara Communications Office, Natnael Aklilu—who identified himself as the commander of the “Dagem Woreilu Ketet” armed unit and deputy head of public relations for Wollo Fano (House of Amhara)—has surrendered in Legehida Woreda, South Wollo Zone. He surrendered along with nine individuals while in possession of two sniper rifles, five Kalashnikovs, one pistol, 617 Kalashnikov bullets, and 84 Bren rounds. In July, the Amhara Media Network (AMN) reported that over 1,000 militia members laid down arms in North Shewa Zone. According to Addis Standard, that number exceeds 3,000 people across the region. The large discrepancy between these figures has drawn skepticism. Bahir Dar city federal MP Dr. Dessalegn Chanie publicly criticized the inconsistencies in the reported numbers and also questioned the government’s commitment to a genuine and inclusive peaceful resolution to the ongoing Amhara crisis.
