The woreda administration announced that Mr. Addisu Teshale, deputy administrator of Enemay Woreda in the East Gojjam zone of the Amhara Region and head of the Office of Labor and Skills, was killed in an apparent targeted attack.
In a statement posted today (Tikimt 6, 2018 E.C.) on the administration’s official Facebook page, the communications office said the deputy administrator was leaving his residence to go to work when, at around 12:30, he was killed in what appears to have been a coordinated/targeted attack.
The group that claimed responsibility, calling itself “Tsinfegna,” said in its statement that “the government repeatedly offers opportunities and requests for those operating in the forest to resolve problems through peaceful means and dialogue, encouraging them to stay and accept these offers.”
The statement went on: “While those forest fighters who took up the opportunity have been welcomed back with affection and have returned to their former peaceful lives, there remain resolute forces — historical enemies who are the bearers of a hostile mission — who are still unable to live in peace and are suddenly taking people’s lives.”
It added that “the resolute forces operating in our woreda are detached from the global sphere; they rely on superstition rather than reason, and possess an ideological backwardness that is incompatible with citizens’ level of intellectual and developmental progress.”
The statement accused these forces of continuing to inflict suffering on the people of the woreda.
About the deceased, the statement said: “Mr. Addisu Teshale was a sincere, hardworking servant who labored day and night to fulfill the mission of the people and the government. He was an honest, principled son of the community who strove to make the community benefit from development and good governance.”
Finally, it pledged: “Together with the National Defense Forces, local defense and allied forces, we will continue our operations with greater determination, coordination and precision than ever before.”
